Osteopathy or osteopathic medicine is a drug-free, non-invasive form of manual therapy designed to relieve the body of pain and increase your overall well-being. The practice is holistic in nature, meaning we look at the whole body and how one small injury in one place may affect the rest of your body and cause dysfunction.
To us, nothing is better than a patient who feels their health and wellbeing is improved after visiting our new Osteopath in Ashgrove. We always make sure to take the time to understand what makes each patient’s situation unique, tailoring their treatment plan accordingly.
This is what we call a patient-centric approach, and why we’ve become the sought-after osteopaths in Everton Park and surrounds.

What do osteopaths treat?
Whether you’ve been injured from sport or an accident, if you’ve got discomfort due to lifestyle and work habits, osteopathy may help you find a solution to alleviate this pain.
At Still Point Osteopathy, we specialise in treating complex, chronic pain. We treat patients of all ages and physical conditions including pregnant women, children, elderly, and athletes. In some disorders, osteopathic medicine may not be appropriate, however, our team of qualified professionals will ask about your medical history to treat you in the context of your overall health or refer you to a more suitable healthcare provider.
We tailor our approach to each individual and focus on diagnosing and treating any underlying conditions and can assist in an array of different conditions including but not limited to:
- Lower back pain and sciatica
- Upper back and neck pain
- Colic
- Fibromyalgia
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Chronic fatigue
- Headaches and migraines (many types of headaches have a musculoskeletal origin, but not all)
- Whiplash (including side effects like dizziness and blurred vision)
- Scoliosis
- Sports injuries and tendinopathies
- Tongue tie (the musculoskeletal elements associated with the face and neck)
- Pelvic pain and PGP
- Hip pain including trochanteric bursitis
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Knee pain
- Foot pain including plantar fasciitis
- Jaw/Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ)
- Shoulder pain including tendinopathies, bursitis and ‘frozen shoulder’ (adhesive capsulitis)
- Elbow pain and wrist pain including tennis and golfer’s elbow
- Neuropathic pain
It will always be our aim to identify the underlying cause of your pain to treat this instead of simply managing your symptoms. Our team are here to help improve your long-term health while providing short-term relief in the meantime.

Benefits of osteopathic treatments
An osteopath can help with many acute and chronic injuries and assist in relieving several symptoms. Additional benefits of seeking osteopathic treatment includes:
- Minimising loss of function in injured areas
- Increased blood flow to the point of injury
- Decreased swelling of the injured area
- Faster return to full function
- Earlier detection or prevention of injury recurrence
- Shorter recovery time after an injury
- Enhanced return of function
- Restoration of normal movement patterns, and coordination
- Reduced use of pain medication
- Reduced stress and anxiety
All of these benefits can be achieved through osteopathic treatment techniques such as joint mobilisation and manipulation, soft tissue massages, and exercise prescription and stretching. While many think that stretching is only important before physical activity, it can also aid in recovery. Our muscles can become tight during periods of inactivity following an injury so stretching can help loosen these tight muscles, thus, improving your range of motion (ROM).
These ROM exercises can help improve or maintain your joint range of motion and by doing these whenever possible during recovery, you can prevent the joints and muscles from becoming stiff. These exercises may also be combined with strengthening exercises once you have improved strength. Strengthening exercises can help you maintain the strength of your uninjured muscles and improve the strength of your weakened muscles.
Book your first appointment
Osteopathic treatment is suitable for all ages and may be covered under your private health insurance policy. The individualised treatment plan provided to you by our team at Still Point Osteopathy will help reduce the symptoms of chronic neck pain by focusing on the health of your muscles, bones, and joints.
Your first appointment will be your osteopath getting to know you and the reason you’re visiting our team at Still Point Osteopathy. It typically takes 40 minutes and includes a comprehensive case history, and a thorough examination, followed by hands-on treatment that aims to restore movement to areas of the body that we’ve identified as restricted. Consistent with the philosophy of osteopathy being a holistic approach, advice for further management of your condition, including stretches, ergonomics, posture, rehabilitative exercises, and nutrition may also be incorporated into a consultation to ensure that your condition is addressed thoroughly.
The number of consultations your osteopath requires will depend on the severity of your problem and how quickly you respond to treatment. Some patients may need just two or three treatments before their pain is relieved, while others may require more extensive therapy over a longer period.
If an X-ray or MRI is needed to diagnose your pain, your osteopath will refer you for further testing. Get started on your journey to better well-being today by calling our Everton Park Osteopaths today on (07) 3366 6831.
